De Zak van Zuid-Beveland

De Zeeuwse Tobbe is located in the Zak van Zuid-Beveland and an area in the municipality of Borsele. It is a small-scale landscape characterised by small polders and numerous inland dykes. The area was created from the 12th century onwards as monks created small reclamations and it is from them that the name Beveland comes.

The Zak van Zuid-Beveland is an area with valuable natural and landscape elements such as flower dykes, welen (small lakes), border lime trees, pollard willows, hedgerows, mounds and small ancient villages. Because of the presence of these elements, the Dutch government designated the Zak van Zuid-Beveland as a Valuable Cultural Landscape in 1994. In 2005, it became part of National Landscape South-West Zeeland.

Out and about

De Zak van Zuid-Beveland has a network of walking and cycling routes. You can take beautiful cycle tours through picturesque villages such as Nisse, ´s-Heer Arendskerke, Borssele, Ellewoutsdijk, Oudelande, Baarland and Hoedekenskerke. Between Borssele and Hoedekenskerke, you can walk, cycle outside the dikes and spot seals in the Westerschelde.

The hedge area is an old land wedged between ´s-Heerenhoek and Nisse. The area is characterised by thickets of Hawthorn hedges, grassland with height differences, pools, ponds and small dykes.

´s-Heerenhoek is 15 minutes from Goes and Middelburg. Middelburg is one of the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands. Its historic centre lends itself perfectly to a city walk.
